Building Conscious Use Of Power

Building Conscious Use of Power

Building Conscious Use of Power, October 21 - 25, 2013is your opportunity to explore the role of power in your life and in your work as a change maker.

As agents of change, it is inevitable that we find ourselves working across power differences and divides – both within ourselves, and in the world around us.

Our awareness of and definitions of power are created from our experiences throughout life and impact how we are in the world, how we interact with others, how we collaborate (or not) and how we lead.

Building Conscious Use of Power will help you explore when, where and how the personal and political intersect in power issues. We will take a look at our own biases, how identity is formed, our experiences of marginalization and belonging and how they play out in our daily lives. We will explore how we can be an effective collaborator and ally and harness our personal strength as leverage for change.

In Building Conscious Use of Power we will explore:

  • How can you be more effective in how you respond to power and its use?
  • How do you hold power and how do you use it?
  • What are the mix of influences that form your reactions to power and how do they impact your work as a change maker?
  • What do you do when you feel powerless?
  • How can you take opportunities to compassionately engage and understand others who hold power and influence on the issues you care about?
  • How do you effectively intervene in frustrating debates and power struggles?

Our learning model uses experiential and cognitive learning techniques combined with peer support, and real world application. You will learn in the company of an amazing group of activists from around the world, in an atmosphere of excitement, peace, health and fun.
