Together with local changemakers, these individuals will spend five days together exploring the role of power, identity, marginalization and belonging in their lives, and how these fundamental realities relate to the roles they play in creating a better world.
Each year participants inevitably experience a range of "ah-ha" moments during the Conscious Use of Power course. One past participant blogged for us about the new 'super-hero' moves he developed that helped him address conflict situations. Another came away with a deeper belief of the importance of compassion and empathy, even towards our deepest adversaries, in order to have greater impact and achieve our goals.
This year not only is there wide geographic representation, but we will also be welcoming people from many cultural backgrounds and a wide variety of vocational spheres to the Haven's rustic ocean-side retreat centre on Gabriola Island, British Columbia. From frontline service providers to government executives, from artistic entrepreneurs to environmental campaigners - this diverse group of participants will share their many experiences and perspectives on power.
In the words of Camille Dumond, a member of the Conscious Use of Power 2015 facilitation team,"Once we are aware of our powers and their impacts - we are less likely to abuse power, or feel powerless. As trainers, we support participants to deeply embody a conscious use of power so that our change work becomes more alive, nourishing and effective." You can read more from Camille here.
